
Stout Undead are an undead enemy in Dragon's Dogma.
Overview[]
Stout Undead are larger, heavier and have more health than common Undead and lumber around much like them. They appear fat because they are bloated with flammable gas from the decomposition of their rotting flesh.

Grab | Phys | Grabs a nearby target and begins biting them for constant damage. Other Undead can join in on this attack to increase damage dealt. |
Flail | Phys | Swings its arms at their target. |
Explode | Mag | If inflicted with Burning, the gas inside them ignites and they begin to swell up, exploding after a few seconds, dealing (magick) fire damage with the chance of inflicting Burning.
The explosion knocks down anyone around them and can damage and ignite their allies as well. |
Crawl | Phys | Swings its arms at their foes while crawling on the ground. |
Gas cloud | Debil | Shakes and emits a cloud of toxic gas that may inflict Poison. |
Tactics[]
Chamber of Resolution A3, 3 Ogres, Stout Undead, Undead Warriors, party undamaged
- Weak against Holy and Fire enchanted weapons and spells.
- All fire attacks have a good chance to cause burning, which causes them to internally combust and detonate.
- Once on fire, they will eventually explode, damaging other enemies, and potentially setting other Stout Undead alight.
- Magickal Gleam also sets them alight.
- Vulnerable to Torpor.
- Find a way to engulf other foes in the blast.

- (Glitch) Using Soul Skewer with a fire enchanted sword may ignite then extinguish the creature on the first hit and kick. A second strike always triggers the explosion. If grappled after the first interrupted explosion audio glitching may occur, with the 'gas' sound effect being played until the creature dies.
- (BUG) , Using Explosive Rivet on a group of Stout Undead sometimes freezes the game.
- (BUG) Using Sheltered Assault may cause the game to hang or lock up. This appears to happen in concert with the undead exploding - it may require an enchanted weapon to trigger.
- Stout Undead's explosion has a magick power of exactly 1000 (fire), and is considered Environmental Damage and so not affected by status effects on the foe.
