A large monster not unlike the Griffin, the Sphinx is an intelligent and wily foe. Preferring to challenge the Arisen's wits rather than their strength, the Sphinx will offer a reward if its riddles are correctly answered. The creature's physiology features the head and upper torso of a woman (not unlike a Harpy), the haunches, tail, and front legs of a lion, and feathered wings resembling that of a peacock's. Unlike the majority of the monsters in the series, the Sphinx can be communicated with.
