Metal Golem in the Chamber of Estrangement
Metal Golem is an enemy in Dragon's Dogma.
Overview[]
Similar to the regular Golem, although much stronger and more aggressive. Its seven discs are not located on the Metal Golem's body, but instead scattered around the environment. These discs emit a speck of bright light that travels in a straight line directly to the Metal Golem, which can be backtracked to the location of each disc.
When attacking the discs, the Metal Golem immediately takes notice and charges its target in a similar manner to that of an enraged Golem.

Attacks[]
Attack | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Permanent Rampage | Spec | Damage to the discs causes the Golem to rage about. Its rage lacks the speed increase of the regular Golem, but it will speed up to attack anyone damaging its discs.
Hitting the laser eye in this state staggers the Golem. |
Impenetrable Defense | Spec | The hard metal body of the Metal Golem is impervious to all attacks, Physical or Magickal.
Attacks however do build up stagger and knockdown. |
Swipe | Phys | Swipes at targets in front of it with both arms. May hit anyone climbing on it. |
Charge | Phys | Runs at targets, knocking down anyone in its path. |
Jump | Phys | Jumps into the air, crushing anyone it lands on. |
Laser Beam | Mag | Fires a laser beam that causes explosions on the ground in its wake. The initial laser beam doesn't do damage, but the explosions will knock its target into the air and may inflict burning. It can sweep the laser in an arc, straight line or track down a target's location.
Hitting the laser eye whilst the beam is being fired causes either knockdown or stagger depending on whether the golem is raging or not. |
Grab | Phys | Grabs a target and proceeds to crush the life out of them. Unlike the regular Golem, it doesn't heal itself with this move. |
Shake | Phys | Tries to shake off any character climbing on it. |
Tactics[]
The Metal Golem itself is impervious to any direct damage. Its seven floating discs are set up around the area and need to be destroyed in order to kill the Metal Golem. The discs may be tracked down by observing where the energy beams to the Metal Golem are originating from.
The Metal Golem and its discs are immune to all debilitations. It is however destroyed by a Maker's Finger either by the arrow striking a disc or the golem's body, or by the secondary tendrils.
Hitting the Metal Golem's head while it shoots the Laser Beam may stagger it, interrupting its attack.
Destroying discs[]
Suppression (Metal Golem quest walkthrough) Asleep-0
Follow the purple light beams to track down the floating discs and destroy them. The Metal Golem in the Witchwood can be slain without awakening it. Bow-wielding Pawns with full bestiary knowledge will shoot the floating glowing discs when they are within range of them.
- The discs are relatively weak to blunt physical attacks.
- Throwblasts and Dragon's Spits are effective.
- Magick Archer : Great Sacrifice can be used to destroy discs.
- Sorcerers : Magick Billow is fairly effective, Exequy destroys discs rapidly.
- Mages : Magick Billow, or unequipping the staff and using bare-handed punches may be the only way for a mage to deal physical damage.
- The golem's own attacks may damage or destroy a disc.
High floating discs[]
Usually a single disc will be located at an above ground level, and inaccessible to standard melee attacks.
- Using a bow is the easiest and most obvious way of destroying the floating discs, as they usually hover beyond the reach of melee attacks.
- Mystic Knights can ensure that Great Cannon homes in on a high floating disc rather than the Metal Golem itself by first switching to a staff and then casting Ingle or Focused Bolts on it. Once that disc's health bar is displayed, the Arisen will be considered "locked on" to that disc, so switch back to a sword/mace and finish it accordingly.
- Sorcerers can use High Maelstrom to draw the floating disc to an area with higher ground where they will be accessible to melee attacks.
- High Maelstrom does not inflict any damage itself.
- High Gicel and High Bolide amongst others do some physical damage and will damage the floating disc.
- High Exequy has the potential to destroy the golem outright, bypassing the need to destroy an inaccessible disc. However it will take 90 seconds to do so (135 with the base spell), and one must remain stationary whilst not being hit whilst casting the spell...
- For high floating discs, a party without physical ranged or other options can try to climb up to the top of the Golem's head, wait until it is under the disc, and then jump off and execute a jumping attack. This method is tedious, exhausting, and not advised.
- In the case of the disc in the far Witchwood one can use Thrown Damage (such as several rocks) from the raised ground to the side - Jumping whilst throwing may be necessary for the correct trajectory.
Stagger/Knockdown[]
- Destroying discs staggers the golem, and destroying them in rapid succession briefly knocks the creature down.
- Hitting the 'eye' whilst it is shooting its laser guarantees an easy interruption.
- Vulnerable to stagger when performing grab attack.
Defensive[]
- The Metal Golem can be baited into damaging its own discs and kill itself. Try standing directly behind or under a disc and lure the Metal Golem to throw a punch or stomp. Evade the incoming attack at the last possible moment.
- If the Arisen lures the Metal Golem to themselves, they will allow pawns to attack the discs. Alternatively they can run quickly away from the Metal Golem whilst the pawns engage to obtain attacks on discs free from the Golem's attention.
Using Exequy[]

Witchwood Metal Golem final moments
The Sorcerer spell High Exequy is effective on the discs, and it can also be used to deal the finishing blow on the golem itself. However the progress of the sigil may stop if several discs remain.
With just one disc remaining the spell can be used to directly dispatch the Metal Golem with around 1000 magick. It is thought that high magick is needed to complete the spell when acting directly on the golem.(verify)
Using Exequy on the amulets can produce Electrum. Destroying the Metal Golem directly using Exequy will generate the rewards from destroying the creature, as well as Electrum from the amulets indirectly destroyed.
