Slashing Damage is a Stat that represents a type of physical damage - generally inflicted by Swords, Daggers, and Longswords. Armor can give resistance to slashing damage - in game this is called Piercing Resistance (also known as Slashing Resistance). Both are expressed as percentages.
Slashing damage is generally damage done by sharp edged or pointy weapons.
Overview[]
All the weapons in Dragon's Dogma are classed as either 100% slashing or 100% bludgeoning.
When physical slashing damage is calculated, the actual damage is reduced (or increased) by the piercing resistance. However weak resistance to slashing damage will not help break a strong foe's defenses - if the damage after defense was zero, it will remain zero even if the creature is weak to slashing attacks.
Human resistances come entirely from clothing and armor; with no clothing and armor, the Piercing resistance is zero.

Notes[]
- See also: Blunt Damage
- A weapon's slash power is expressed as Slashing Power in the game.
- For more details on how damage, power, and resistances affect health damage on foes and allies see Damage Calculation.
- It is thought that the physical component of the spells Gicel and High Gicel are slashing damage.
- For the individual pages on creatures the values are given as weakness expressed as literal percentage of the slashing damage - thus a value of 80% means that 80% of the theoretical damage is done.
- The armor set with the highest resistance is the Steel Armor Set (46% resistance) when worn with the Silver Chainmail Set (16% resistance) for a total of 62%. (values when gold rarified)
- The Set of Duke's Clothing is also very resistant at 60%
- The poorest resistance is probably the Grisly Armor Set with negative resistance overall of -8%.
- Generally piercing resistances increase as an armor is enhanced, dragonforged, and rarified.
- It is not clear why no mixed slashing or piercing and bludgeoning weapons have been coded - there are many weapons that have both blunt and sharp elements, e.g. the Steel Urchin.
