Quest By Royal Decree III

Dire Drakes, (sometimes referred to as Firedrakes), are large more dangerous Drakes encountered on Bitterblack Isle and through quests found therein.

Overview[]

Dire Drakes are a stronger version of Drakes, generally only encountered only on Bitterblack Isle. They possess higher strength, more health, and stronger resistances.

Their attacks are similar to that of the lesser Drake, but are more powerful. Dire Drakes emit a red glow. Climbing and clinging onto a Dire Drakes causes Fire damage and may inflict Burning.

The Dire Drake has higher Defense than any other dragon, making them far harder to damage with physical attacks. This tends to prolong encounters even when its heart is constantly attacked.

They have four weak points: The two horns, the wings, and weakest of all, the heart.

Defeating a Dire Drake provides a chance of Dragonforging any Weapons and Armors equipped on the Arisen regardless of enhancement level.

Offensive[]

  • The chest, where its heart is located, is its weakest point. Additionally, the two horns and the wings are weak points as well. The Arisen must land the final blow to the heart when its health is fully depleted.
  • They are weak to Ice.
    • Due to its high defenses, physical attack from Ice enchanted arrows is not very effective.
  • Pawns will use items that give Invigorations, and Bow wielding pawns will equip Special Arrows(see Threat Level and Special Tool/Curative Usage by Pawns). Blast Arrows are particularly useful; they can take down a flying Dire Drake.
  • Vulnerable to Torpor, although, it overcomes the debilitation faster than any other enemies.
  • Immune to Sleep (Sleeper Arrows, High Sopor), like all Dragons.
  • All vocations: Climb up to the heart and slash at it.

Defensive[]

Pawn specific[]

  • Mages equipped with a Legion's Might staff will revive themselves after becoming Unconscious.
  • Incomplete Bestiary knowledge will cause the pawn to randomly target one of the Dire Drake's four weak points. To ensure that the pawn targets the heart, the Arisen should focus on destroying the horns and wings to enable an accurate shot.
  • Pawns who have 100% resistance to Possession will not be affected by the dragon's grab attack. Alteratively, bring Placative Brews.

Notes[]

  • Though usually only found on Bitterblack Isle, one may be found Post-Game in the Chamber of Fate if the quest By Royal Decree III is taken. (Dark Arisen only)
  • Referred to in-game as Dire Drake in quests, the Bestiary, kill counts etc as well as in official sources - the name Firedrake is also often used, and also found in the description of some of the creature's body parts, such as Firedrake Fang.
    • In the japanese localization the 'Dire Drake' is refered to as ドレイク凶種 [Doreiku kyō-shu] ("Drake evil species") - a combination of rōmaji for 'Drake' [Doreiku] and conventional japanese characters : 凶種 [evil + species/type]. The other dire dragon species are named in a similar fashion.
