Netflix Synopsis[]

Ethan and Hannah reunite with royal guards Simon and Balthazar, agreeing to help them destroy a greedy lich who commands an army of undead.

Summary[]

An enraged Ethan fights off an army of Skeletons only to be stopped by Hannah who calms him and advises that they flee. Calmed down, Ethan agrees and they flee while the army of Skeletons pursues them. Soon they reunite with Simon and a couple of soldiers who protect them until the light from the sunrise vanquishes some of the Skeletons and making the remaining retreat. Now that the Skeletons are gone, Simon recognizes the two from their previous encounter with each other.

At camp, Simon learns about how Ethan and Hannah entered the church to escape the rain. Balthazar informs their friends about the monster called a Lich that they encountered in the church and how they were assigned to subjugate it by the capital. There once was a bustling metropolis of a city centuries ago, but it has been long since abandoned. Ever since the Dragon attack, there has been no need for the road that connects through the dilapidated city. But now new, safer routes are needed, and as it so happens the one that connects through the city is a perfect candidate for one. However, the Lich in the church complicates things, and when the two guards were assigned the task to subjugate the Lich, they failed. This doesn't sit right with Balthazar, who is the son of an impoverished noble background who made a name for himself with his military achievements. Although he has a track record of completing the tasks assigned to him without fail, the Lich subjugation is his first failure. Simon, on the other hand, is not of a noble background, he's just a childhood friend who helps his friend out whenever he's in trouble. Embarrassed by Simon's lack of tact, Balthazar asks for Ethan and Hannah's help. Ethan, however, declines the offer as he wants to prioritize his goal of killing the Dragon. So Simon offers him a quid pro quo; in exchange for helping them deal with the Lich, he'll disclose the location of the Dragon. To that Ethan excepts the offer and much to Ethan's reluctance, they rest until the afternoon.

Afterward, the group, accompanied by some capital soldiers, enter the church while Simon discloses the Lich's background and history. Apparently he was the sole reason why the people of the city abandoned it. Reaching the Lich's lair, the Lich appears, accompanied by some Skeletons, and kills the Capital Soldiers. While Hannah, Simon, and Balthazar fend off the Skeletons, Ethan faces off against the Lich who sends him flying. Eventually, Hannah, using a bag full of the Lich's gold leads the Lich into a trap, where she immobilizes it by the rays of the sun, and Ethan finishes it off.

In the basement of the Church, while Simon notes they'll have to give their men a respectable burial, Ethan asks what they're going to do with the Lich's gold. It's said that they'll have to report it to the Duke, but Ethan gives an alternative, claiming they can keep it for themselves. Ethan then tosses a gold coin that he got from the Lich to Balthazar who becomes entranced by it, while Simon spouts the code and honor of a soldier to not accept frivolous things such as gold. Balthazar impales Simon with his spear and then goes on a tirade of how he'll spend his newfound gold. Simon and Balthazar then fight against each other as Ethan demands to know where the Dragon's lair is. He gets no answer until Simon kills Balthazar by impaling him with his sword. Finally answering Ethan's demand for the location of the Dragon, Simon discloses that the Dragon is in The Tainted Mountain. He also asks for two favors, the first is to finish him off, the second is to kill Balthazar if he becomes a Lich. Ethan promises to humor the first, but not the second. Hannah reassures Simon that Balthazar's soul has found peace, which leads Simon to think that she and Ethan are an odd pair. With that, Ethan kills Simon and later buries the soldiers, with their weapons acting as gravestones.

Elsewhere, a man has sex with a woman and is drained of all of his bodily fluids. The woman then falls out the open window and flies off to parts unknown.
