She sequentially disintegrates into ashes in front of Ethan who is then confronted by a dragon. Just as the Dragon was about to crush Ethan with its claw, he awakens from his sleep in a cold sweat.

As Olivia prepares breakfast, Ethan embraces Olivia relieved that his nightmare was just that. Out of the blue, a young boy named Louis visits and enjoys breakfast with them. While Ethan prepares himself for a hunt, Louis thanks Olivia for Ethan and her always taking care of him after his parents passed away. Speaking disparagingly of himself, believing that his presence is a burden, Olivia rebuts Louis' comments, claiming they enjoy him being there very much. Fully prepared, Ethan and Louis head out into the mountains to hunt for food.

En route to the mountain, the two walk by a fortress where a couple of inebriated soldiers are enjoying themselves. Louis' shrill comments aggravates them. Even though Ethan tries to negotiate with them to forgive Louis, the boy's choice words anger them further. Finally, the Captain of the soldiers arrives and breaks up the argument between Ethan, Louis, and his subordinates. Out of curiosity, Louis asks the Captain about why they're stationed there when the Dragon in the vicinity hasn't made a move. The Captain answers that it's because of a preparation protocol, in case the Dragon stirs up trouble.

Back on their way to the mountain, Ethan and Louis discuss the possibility of if the Dragon descended onto the village. The topic makes Ethan recall his dream involving the Dragon. Eventually, Louis manages to kill a young doe, only for it to be claimed by a rabid wolf. Louis tries to attack it with his bow, but it dodges the arrow. Closing in on Louis, Ethan protects him as the two are surrounded by a pack of wolves. Ethan then tells Louis to return to the village to warn the people there and orders him to stay with Olivia.

Returning to the fortress with the Capital Soldiers, Louis informs the group of the wolves, and they prepare to deal with them. At that moment a dark, ominous cloud fills the sky, which leaves everyone who sees it disconcerted. Back in the forest, the wolves that surround Ethan flee, leaving him perplexed. At that moment, the Dragon flies overhead and reaches Cassardis, which it attacks. Although the Capital Soldiers try and attack the Dragon, their attempt is feeble, making all but the Captain flee in terror.

Rushing back to the village from the mountains, Ethan sees his village charred and up in flames. In the village, Louis finds Olivia and helps her walk by lending his shoulder. Soon, Ethan finds the remaining Capital Soldiers and learns from them that they're the only ones who made it through the Dragon attack. Just as the Captain of the Capital Soldiers offers Ethan shelter at the fortress, they're crushed by falling rubble. Hiding underneath an awning, Louis and Olivia are found by Ethan who embraces the two in relief. Now reunited, Louis goes off to see if the coast is clear. As he does, he's devoured by the Dragon. Enraged, Ethan takes a sword and attacks the Dragon, only to be flung backward into a wall. The Dragon then finds Olivia and incinerates her much to Ethan's horror.

Finished with its work, the Dragon asks Ethan if he's filled with unbridled rage and seeks revenge against him. Ethan gives no answer and the Dragon takes and devours his heart, while also giving him one final statement involving the dark. As his consciousness fades away, Ethan is meet by a spiritual apparition of Olivia. She apologizes to him for not being able to give him a family and warns him to not succumb to his rage.

Awakening in his house again, Ethan notices a large scar on his chest, showing that everything he experienced the day prior was real. Outside of his house, Ethan sees Cassardis in ruin, and is met by a woman named who calls him an "Arisen".
