Carrying is core mechanic in Dragon's Dogma.
Description
Carrying allows the transportation of small and medium sized objects.
A wide variety of animate and inanimate objects can be carried - inanimate objects include barrels, boxes, large stones, and pots. Animated (living) creatures cab be carried, but generally must be in someway incapacitated first, or surprised.
Most or all small and medium sized foes can be carried, including bandits, saurians, and goblins, as can fauna such as Boar. Almost all dead animals can be carried, including giant ratss and spiders.
Any carried living creature will eventually try and succeed in freeing itself - whether friend of foe. Incorporeal cretures such as ghosts cannot be grabbed. Giant monsters such as ogres as too big to carry.

Notes
- Press the "grab" button to carry. Pressing again will place the item back on the ground. Pressing an attack button whilst carrying will throw the object.
- In place of the Grapple, characters can grab, pick up and throw similar or smaller-sized enemies. This will not damage pawns but will injure both the thrown enemy and the one targeted. For example, when fighting against two Goblins, it's possible to kill both by throwing the first at the second. The distance of their flight when thrown and the longer they can be held depends on the character's weight and carrying capacity as well as their stamina.
- The human inhabitants of Gransys (NPCs) can be carried - this is considered inpolite, and results in a small loss of affinity.
- A picked up human will drop any items it was carrying - a good way to obtain rare trowels and Work Tables from workmen.
- Any ally grabbed no longer registers as a vulnerable target:
- Barrels can be carried and stacked in some circumstances to gain access to higher places.
- Boar and other creatures may be carried and thrown to the pawns, creating a game of 'catch'.
